Program Information

Degrees Offered:

Master of Public Administration and International Relations

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The MPA/IR Program is a highly integrated plan of study that combines the Maxwell School's top-ranked Master of Public Administration with its professional MA in International Relations. The degree offers maximum preparation for careers in global consulting firms, NGOs, and international organizations - careers that value a combination of regional expertise and public management skills. The MPA/IR Program is designed to allow students to fulfill the requirements of both degrees with the completion of 58 credits in a two-year time frame. Students may apply directly to the joint program or add the second degree once admitted. We generally have around 20 joint MPA/IR students begin each year. Summer (July) is the preferred time of entry, with MPA/IR students launching their studies as part of the MPA entering cohort. Depending on how students tailor their program of study and IR internship components, they may able to finish both degree by May or June of their second year of study. The joint program allows students to participate in two semesters away from campus (summer and fall of their second year) if they desire.
