Program Information

Degrees Offered:

Master of Music in conducting

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Our comprehensive master of music (M.M.) degree program in conducting trains you in performance practice and rehearsal techniques in an open, positive atmosphere. Because of the diverse interests of our students, the program is designed to allow you to explore conducting in several different settings, including orchestral, wind, choral, and musical theater. The program emphasizes equally four aspects of conducting: baton technique and body language; score reading; score study, which involves the synthesis of the elements of music and how they relate to the musical creation as a whole; and effective rehearsal technique, including use of time, group psychology, and problem solving. The faculty also works with you to develop both self-awareness as a musician and conductor and a philosophical foundation of music and conducting. All conducting students are given ample podium time with Setnor School of Music ensembles. You also have the opportunity to observe both faculty and guest conductors.
