Program Description:
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering is designed for students interested in research and teaching. The program of study consists of coursework, a screening (qualifying) examination, an oral comprehensive (candidacy) examination, and preparation and defense of the dissertation.
A minimum of 42 credit hours is required for the completion of the PhD degree, including at least 24 credits in chemical engineering. No credits are given for dissertation research. A student entering the PhD program with a MS degree may apply up to 30 credits toward the required coursework, with the approval of the program director. A minimum of three years of graduate study is required and students typically complete all requirements within five years.
Soft Interfaces IGERT
Syracuse University has been awarded $3M by NSF to develop an Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training Program (IGERT) in Soft Interfaces over the next five years. This is an excellent opportunity to train PHD scientists and engineers in the areas of biological membranes, biomaterials and nanostructured interfaces.
