Program Description:

Sport Management programs combine the principles of a business management curriculum with the unique demands of sport as an enterprise. An interdisciplinary curriculum — experiential in design and practice — prepares you through course work, fieldwork, and internships to be a successful professional in a variety of career fields with national sport organizations, multinational corporations and businesses in sport marketing, media and communications, event and facility management, sport law and labor relations, security and risk management, information technology in sport enterprises, sport economics and finance, sport production and supply chain management, or sport governance and leadership. The program is exemplary in its focus on future trends such as information technology in sport, sport entrepreneurship and international sport. You will enjoy outstanding faculty who share their wealth of professional, industry-based experiences in the classroom while helping you consider sport management from a strategic leadership perspective. As you study a variety of graduate-level courses, you’ll expand your capacity for research by collaborating with outstanding scholars through international academic partnerships. Choose internship opportunities that reflect your interests in fields such as collegiate sport, professional sport (major and minor league), national sport committees, international sport-governing bodies, full-service sport marketing agencies and event management firms. Also located on SUNY Cortland's campus are the Sport Media and Technology Learning Center and the national training centers for sport-specific information technology companies such as Dartfish.
