The 36-credit MLS program comprises 12 courses—encompassing general core requirements in library science and information management as well as advanced electives in a wide variety of topics such as digital libraries, law libraries, library administration, literacy programs, multimedia resources, Web design and special collections. Students also may gain experiential learning through for- and non-credit internships throughout the New York City metropolitan area. New York State will issue the Professional Certificate for Public Libraries to St. John’s graduates who provide proof that they have completed their MLS degree. The 24-credit Advanced Certificate program allows practicing librarians and information specialists to expand their knowledge and skills.
