Degrees Offered:

M.A. in International Education

Format: Campus

Program Description:

NYU Steinhardt’s MA in International Education prepares you to foster global understanding through study abroad programs and other educational exchange opportunities, promote international development through education, or help children access education in crisis and conflict-affected contexts. As a student you will become an expert in designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating programs in multinational and international settings.

You’ll study with a passionate multidisciplinary faculty. Pursue the degree on a full- or part-time basis; it can be completed in one year including summer.

The curriculum includes foundational courses in international education theories, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and electives. A required internship provides professional work experience and links theory to practice. Internships may be arranged in New York, in other cities, and internationally. Recent placements include the Institution for International Education, NYU Office of International Students and Scholars, Sesame Workshop, UNESCO, and the U.S. Department of State.

We offer one of the most extensive graduate study abroad programs in the country, where you’ll have extraordinary opportunities for study, professional development and networking, and applied learning. Our Intern Abroad program connects students with a community-based organization in Accra, Ghana, where you’ll design and implement a civic engagement project.

Graduates are located throughout the world, and work at a variety of organizations, universities, and governmental and nonprofit agencies in areas including education policy, research and evaluation, program management, and study abroad. Recent placements include Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State; Program Manager, Institute of International Education; Project Director, Global Peace Initiative of Women; and Enrollment Advisor, American University of Beirut.
