M.A. in Educational Theatre with Teacher Certification in Theatre, All Grades, Dual M.A. Certification Program in Educational Theatre with Teacher Certification in Theatre, All Grades and English 7-12
We offer the only academic program in the country in educational theatre that leads to B.S., M.A., Ed.D., and Ph.D. degrees. At all levels, our program emphasizes the applications of theatre in a range of community and educational settings, with course work in production and performance; criticism, aesthetics, and research; theatre and drama education; artist-in-residence strategies; and theatre for and by young people. It provides pathways of specialization in applied theatre, drama education, and play production for artists and educators. We produce plays and new works year-round for young and adult audiences with accompanying workshops and applied theatre projects in the Black Box Studio, the Provincetown Playhouse, and other community venues.
Our program offers teacher certification preparation through multiple tracks, including the M.A. in Educational Theatre with Teacher Certification in Theatre, All Grades; the Dual Certification M.A. in Educational Theatre with English; and the Dual Certification M.A. in Educational Theatre with Social Studies. Here, you are trained as a theatre, theatre and English, or theatre and social studies teacher and are placed in school settings with cooperating mentors. Alternatively, you can enroll in the M.A. program in Educational Theatre for Colleges and Communities – now also available in a 3-summer format -- where you’ll explore and research the power of theatre in a range of contexts. We offer internships and extensive experiences in a variety of professional settings, including nationally prominent theatres for young audiences; health and justice venues; media network sites; and schools; and government, arts, and community centers. Our doctoral programs emphasize scholarship and applied research, preparing you for faculty positions in colleges/universities throughout the world and for leadership positions in theatres and arts organizations. You can also participate in study abroad programs in London, Dublin, and San Juan.
