Degrees Offered:

Post-M.A. Certificate in TESOL, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in TESOL, M.A. in TESOL

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Combine your love of language with inquiry-based teaching methods for children, adolescents, and adults. Our TESOL graduate programs prepare you to teach English to speakers of other languages and meet the demand for second language teachers. Curricula integrate second language pedagogy, linguistics, cross-cultural studies, advanced language study, and second language acquisition with field experiences and student teaching.

Our Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in TESOL is the ideal choice if you are interested in teaching English abroad or working with immigrant populations in the U.S. Our M.A. program (All Grades) leads to NY State initial teacher certification. It can be taken as a dual certification program with our M.A. in Foreign Language Education to expand your employment options as a teacher of both English and your target foreign language. Our M.A. in Teaching French or Spanish with TESOL is a unique two-city dual certification curriculum with one year in Paris or Madrid and one year in New York City, offered jointly with the NYU Departments of French/Spanish. The M.A. (College & Adult) program prepares you as a teacher beyond the K-12 level and internationally. If you’re a second language teacher, supervisor, teacher trainer, administrator, or materials developer, our Post-M.A. Certificate program provides opportunities to continue your study beyond the master's level. Our selective Ph.D. program emphasizes research in second language acquisition and pedagogy in linguistically and socially diverse environments and communities. Unique graduate study abroad opportunities broaden your learning experience.

Graduates work as teachers, program coordinators, curriculum specialists, and evaluators in schools, community colleges, and universities throughout the NY area, across the U.S., and worldwide. Opportunities are rapidly growing in non-school settings, such as immigrant resettlement agencies, training programs for multinationals, and international agencies.
