About New York Institute of Technology

New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) is a private, nonprofit research university located in Old Westbury, on Long Island, New York. The university was founded in 1955, and holds multiple regional and programmatic accreditations. They also offer online study, and maintain multiple satellite campuses around the world. The New York Institute of Technology acceptance rate was 73% in Fall 2016.i However, this figure considers all programs including undergraduate, so if you want to know more about a particular graduate program, you may need to inquire with that program for details.

Each graduate program at New York Institute of Technology has its own admissions requirements, unique to the area of study, degree level, and the nature of the program. As such, the prerequisites, and application materials necessary may vary, as may your application timeline. However, NYIT does employ rolling admissions and accepts students on a continual basis, provided there are openings in the program in question. Typical application elements include:

  • Academic Records: Generally, unofficial academic records are sufficient for the application process, along with any other records reflecting your prior performance and coursework, such as provisional certificates or degrees. The specific coursework and GPA needed may vary by program. Once you’re accepted, you would need to submit the official transcripts and other paperwork.
  • Test Scores: NYIT asks for GRE or GMAT scores. However, specific score requirements may vary by program and be evaluated alongside other academic performance. To find out if there’s a minimum required score, or if specific tests are required or recommended for admission, contact the specific school or program you’d like to attend (e.g. the school of business).
  • Proof of English Fluency: If you’re an international student or come from a non-English speaking background, you may be asked to submit TOEFL scores or other evidence that you speak, read and write English well enough to succeed in an English-speaking classroom. This requirement may also vary by program and is subject to change.
