M.S.ED. in Special Education: Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

This 38-credit M.S.Ed. degree in special education is for students without prior certification. It leads to a Master of Science degree and eligibility for initial NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities (Gr. 7 – 12). It prepares students to teach in self-contained special education classrooms and resource rooms at the middle school and high school level (Gr. 7 – 12). Students with a minimum of 18 credits in math, science, social studies and/or English may apply for an extension to teach those subjects in a special education classroom.

Students graduating from this program are eligible for teaching certification once they have passed all required portions of the New York State Teacher Certification Exam (NYSTCE). Students may also apply for Internship Certification in special education after completing the first 17 credits. Internship Certification permits students to begin teaching while they complete their degrees.
