Doctor of Pharmacy Professional Program (Pharm.D.)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

LIU Pharmacy offers the only entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program in New York City’s hottest borough. As one of the largest and oldest pharmacy schools in the country, we have educated more than 20,000 professional and graduate pharmacy students, many of whom are now leaders in their field.

The Pharm.D. program’s patient-centered, outcomes-oriented approach to pharmacy practice will give you the scientific background and problem-solving skills you need to take advantage of a wide range of career opportunities with competitive starting salaries.

The Pharm.D. curriculum begins with two years of pre-professional studies in the liberal arts and sciences. The pre-pharmacy core curriculum of courses in the physical and biological sciences and mathematics is combined with humanities and social sciences to provide a foundation for the academic rigor of the professional phase of the Pharm.D. program, as well as a common and universally accepted body of knowledge and understanding of human concerns that will apply in students’ professional and personal lives.

The professional segment of the Pharm.D. program consists of six semesters (years 3-5) of didactic and introductory practice experiential coursework and an extramural sixth year of 40 weeks of advanced practice experience rotations, which students complete in hospital, community, and other pharmacy practice settings. The professional program provides the specialized education necessary to develop expertise in the ever-broadening field of pharmacy and prepares the student for professional licensure examinations.

To keep abreast of the educational needs for an ever-evolving profession, significant changes in curriculum are occasionally required. Please review the descriptions below to access the accurate curriculum based on your program start date.
