Long Island University
Richard L. Conolly College of Liberal Arts and Science
The Department of Biology offers the M.S. degree with specialization in microbiology, medical microbiology, and molecular cell biology. Thirty graduate credits and a research thesis are required, except in the medical microbiology program, where 6 additional credits may be substituted for the research thesis. Fully matriculated students may begin their research project during the first year in attendance after successfully defending the thesis proposal, and the entire program can be completed in two years. The program of study is arranged so as to reflect the student's interest in one of the above-mentioned fields. Graduate classes meet in the evening during the week and during the day on weekends. A year-round schedule, including two 6-week summer sessions, is offered.
