Program Description:

Juilliard’s graduate-level conducting program, established in 1972, has a strong record of achievement, having trained many of today's most prominent orchestral conductors. The department is currently led by renowned conductor and Juilliard alumnus Alan Gilbert, the music director of the New York Philharmonic. As a conducting student at Juilliard, you will work closely with Maestro Gilbert and Associate Director James Ross. You will have regular opportunities to rehearse with the Conductors' Lab Orchestra, a paid student orchestra, as well as regular access to New York Philharmonic rehearsals, concerts, and guest conductors. Public performances of the Lab Orchestra take place biannually in Alice Tully Hall as part of the popular free Wednesdays at One series.
