Academic Opportunities at Canisius College
Ninety-eight percent of the faculty at Canisius College have a Ph.D. or a terminal degree in their field. Nearly half of its faculty is full-time, and the student to faculty ratio is 11:1. Seven academic institutes on campus offer graduate degrees in the arts and sciences, business, and education. Collectively, students have access to hundreds of study abroad, service, and student organization opportunities.
The Canisius College Ranking
In 2018, U.S. News ranked Canisius College #9 in two categories: Best Value Schools and Best Colleges for Veterans. Its overall ranking in Regional Universities North was tied for #22.i In its graduate school division, Canisius College was ranked #146 (tie) in the Part-time MBA category.ii
Canisius College Athletics
There are sixteen total NCAA Division I sports teams at Canisius College, all called the Golden Griffins or the Griffs, and many of which compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. In total, the teams host more than 3,000 student athletes.
Canisius College athletics are embedded in the Jesuit philosophy of education and consistent with the mission of the college. As such, the intercollegiate athletics programs strives for excellence not only in athletics, but in academics, service, and leadership to others. Mission, Vision and Values
The Canasius College mission is to offer outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs through transformative learning experiences that engage students in and out of the classroom. It encourages students to embrace a commitment to excellence, service, and leadership in a global society.

Admissions:
Each graduate program at Canisius College has distinct admissions requirements. Therefore, applicants to Canisius College are matched with an admissions counselor to help guide them through the process of applying. In general, however, all applicants must submit:
- Unofficial or official transcripts depending on the step in the admissions process
- Two letters of recommendation
- GRE or GMAT scores if their department requires it
- An application fee which varies by program
Graduate applications are reviewed by admissions and departments on a rolling basis, and there are three start dates throughout the year: one in May, one in July, and one at the end of August. International students might have to meet additional requirements regardless of their program requirements.

Financial Aid
The U.S. Department of Education works with numerous organizations to conduct an accreditation process at higher education institutions. Accreditation helps ensure that an institution maintains high standards and meets acceptable levels of quality. Accrediting agencies help determine the extent to which standards are met and publically announce their findings. This helps hold schools to account.
Canisius College has institutional accreditation from the Middle States Association Commission on Higher Education. The College also has accreditation for two of its schools from the following agencies:
- The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP): this agency accredits the Canisius College School of Education and Human Services
- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International): this agency accredits the Canisius College Richard J. Wehle School of Business.
Canisius College has additional programmatic accreditation for its:
- Athletic Training program from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education
- Chemistry program from the American Chemical Society
- Community Counseling and School Counseling program from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs
- Deaf Education program from the Council for Education of the Deaf

Campus Locations
Canisius College offers 35 graduate programs through three schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Richard J. Wehle School of Business (commonly referred to as the Canisius College Business School), and the School of Education and Human Services. Through these schools, graduate students can access a range of Canisius College majors offered either on campus, online, or through a hybrid format.
During the fall 2016 semester, 1,139 graduate students enrolled in graduate-level education across programs and schools. With the Canisius College total enrollment at 3,734 students, just over one-third of students at the school were graduate students.iii
Canisius College Program Highlights: a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration
Offered through the School of Education and Human Services, the Sports Administration master’s degree program is one of the school’s most popular. In the 2016-2017 school year, 65 students earned this degree, placing it just behind the most commonly pursued degree in business administration.
This hands-on program and curriculum emphasizes contemporary communications skills, cutting-edge technologies in sports administration, and emerging sports industry trends. In their programs, students do coursework, participate in internships, attend industry sports events, and have opportunities to study abroad. The combination helps them develop the business and leadership skills demanded by a global sports industry. Should they want to enhance their academic acumen, students can participate in Canisius College’s Institute for Research in Sports.
Through their coursework, students may study:

- Sports finance and business
By combining on-campus and online programming, students can earn this degree in as little as one year.
