Program Description:

The Canisius College MS in Physical Education leads to initial certification in New York – one of the most rigorous state certifications in the nation. Earning your initial certification in physical education will prepare you for a career as a physical education teacher. This program is offered on campus in Buffalo, NY.

Our clinically-rich program will give you real experience teaching every aspect of PE – from team sports to healthy living. You’ll study theory and put it into practice. You’ll research, analyze, test, and synthesize. Our program will prepare you for the real work of teaching physical education – and by the time you have your own classroom, you’ll already be an experienced, certified professional.

You will receive extensive field experience prior to student teaching. Your student teaching culminates in workshops in multicultural education, school violence prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, and resume and job search techniques. Service learning opportunities give you additional hands-on experience assisting with after-school programs, children’s sports leagues, nutrition education programs and others.

Canadian and other international applicants must provide a completed Certification of Finances Form. International students who have completed university coursework outside the U.S. and Canada are required to have their transcripts and degrees evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation service such as World Education Services (WES) TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score, IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score, or a CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) score.
