Program Description:

The Graduate Certificate in Watershed Studies and Management offers graduate students working in a relevant disciplinary area the opportunity to receive special recognition for interdisciplinary work related to watersheds. At present, participating departments include Biological Sciences, Geological Sciences, and Geography. Students will work closely with the core faculty involved with the Center for Integrated Watershed Studies (CIWS) as well as faculty in their own departments. The program teaches students: • Sound scientific understanding of the functioning of watersheds; their hydrology, ecology and chemical cycling • Sound understanding of anthropogenic factors that affect watersheds; the relationships between land use, zoning, management decisions and watershed functioning The certificate program will provide graduate students interdisciplinary experience in watershed-related work, while at the same time advancing expertise in their own fields.
