Program Description:

If you are seeking outstanding facilities and a rigorous learning environment, consider Binghamton University’s graduate program in Systems Science. Our diverse faculty and student body work together to conduct research that prepares students for successful careers in industry. Members of our faculty have extensive experience in subjects as diverse as health systems, optimization, fuzzy logic, uncertainty, intelligent systems, bio-systems, human factors/ergonomics, supply chain management, and electronics manufacturing. We provide a variety of degree options to suit the needs of students, and courses of study are highly individualized to fit with specific areas of interest. The Systems Science graduate degrees offered include: • M.S. in Systems Science • MEng in Systems Engineering • Ph.D. in Systems Science The M.S. program focuses on both theoretical and practical knowledge and is a research-oriented program that culminates in either a thesis or a project. This degree prepares students for a career in a development environment or for further doctoral studies. There is an optional focus on Health Systems for the M.S. program. The Health Systems concentration is achieved through completion of specific, industry-driven coursework that is completed in addition to the base Industrial and Systems Engineering requirements, as well as a final healthcare project or thesis. Topics include human factors engineering, performance improvement, quality, healthcare finance and accounting, healthcare operations management, and other advanced topics in health systems. All coursework is designed for immediate application of systems engineering skills and concepts within the healthcare setting. The MEng program prepares students for professional work in the specific field. It is an excellent option for students who want to expand their marketability after receiving their Bachelor’s degrees, but who may not wish to pursue a doctoral program. The MEng is also quite flexible in terms of planning and timing, which makes it an excellent option for part-time students. Our Ph.D. program encourages students to develop their own interests with the support and guidance of our experienced faculty. This degree will prepare students for careers in research and development and is also a great option for those who wish to continue studies beyond the acquisition of their degree. Students in the Ph.D. program frequently serve as teaching, research, and graduate assistants. These positions provide valuable training for classroom settings and a future in academia. Binghamton alumni have exceptional job placements after leaving the University and have gone on to be professors, professionals, and leaders in their fields. Alumni profiles can be found on our department website, and we encourage you to visit and learn more about our exciting program in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
