Program Description:

Graduates of the program in psychiatric mental health nursing are prepared to provide comprehensive, client-centered mental health care to individuals, families and groups across the lifespan. Students acquire in-depth knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness, as well as the promotion of mental health. Students may select a functional role preparation as a family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, nurse educator, or nurse administrator. Nurses who have a master of science degree in nursing may enroll in the post-master's psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certificate program. Students may choose an MS program that leads to Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification, or an MS program that does not lead to a certification.
