Program Description:

If you are looking for outstanding facilities and expert faculty, consider Binghamton University’s graduate programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Our faculty and graduate students are accomplished researchers who have worked in wide-ranging fields, from microprocessors, to network security, to photovoltaic and renewable energy technology. Each of the three degree programs (M.S., MEng, Ph.D.) has a different focus, to reflect the goals of the specific student. The M.S. program focuses on both theoretical and practical knowledge, and is a research-oriented program that culminates in either a thesis or a project. This degree prepares students for a career in a development environment or for further doctoral studies. The MEng prepares students for professional work in their fields. This degree requires no projects or thesis, and can be completed in twelve months of full-time study. It is an excellent option for students who want to expand their marketability after receiving their Bachelor’s, but who may not wish to pursue a doctoral program. The MEng is also quite flexible in terms of planning and timing, which makes it an excellent option for part-time students. Our Ph.D. program encourages students to develop their own interests with the support and guidance of our experienced faculty. This degree will prepare students for careers in research and development, and is also a great option for those who wish to continue studies beyond the acquisition of their degree. Students in the PhD program have the option to become teaching assistants, which also provides valuable training for classroom settings and a future in academia. Graduates of Binghamton have gone on to work for a number of companies including Verizon, Lockheed Martin, IBM, and many others. Alumni profiles can be found on our department website, and we encourage you to visit and learn more about our exciting program in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
