The doctoral program in Educational Theory and Practice is designed for experienced educators seeking to integrate theory, knowledge, research, and practice. The goal is to increase understanding and discover improved teaching strategies for early childhood, elementary, secondary, and postsecondary educational settings and related fields. The program's primary emphasis is on providing a "broadening" experience, rather than the more narrow emphases of many other doctoral programs. Areas of focus include analysis of patterns and power issues that shape education, instructional leadership, multicultural considerations, and the examination of goals and ethics. Within this broadened perspective specialized study occurs through assignments in core courses, a flexible electives requirement, and independent study and dissertation research. We invite you to explore Binghamton’s Graduate School of Education website to learn more about the program.
