Program Description:

If you are an experienced PreK-12 educator interested in opportunities to expand and impact your school beyond your own classroom, then Binghamton’s Certificate in Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership may be for you. The CAS prepares prospective educational leaders to serve in schools and school districts in variety of capacities. Our program is designed for part-time, post-Master’s students who work full time as teachers or other kinds of educational professionals in elementary and secondary schools. C.A.S. graduates frequently wish to pursue future employment as • Staff developers • Curriculum coordinators • Program directors • Assistant principals and principals • Assistant superintendents and superintendents • Other PreK-12 educational leaders and administrators The C.A.S. is also a valuable stepping stone for those wishing to earn one or more NYS administrative leadership certifications, or to extend their graduate studies to an Ed.D. in the future. Admission requirements are a Masters in Education or a closely related field, and three years of full-time paid employment in a PreK-12 setting. Successful completion of the C.A.S. and other requirements will permit Binghamton University to recommend qualified students to the State Education Department for either or both of the following NYS administrative certifications: • School Building Leader (SBL-Initial) • School District Leader (SDL-Professional) We invite you to explore Binghamton University’s Educational Leadership website to learn more about the program’s courses and how the expertise you gain will assist you in reaching your goals.
