This MAT in adolescence education program is for students who have an undergraduate degree in biology and seek certification to teach biology in grades 7-12. Students who complete the degree are eligible for initial certification (see Teacher Certification for more information). Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in biology. The applicant's undergraduate work must be acceptable to the Biological Sciences Department in Harpur College, as well as to the Graduate School of Education. Students without appropriate undergraduate preparation are required to take additional intermediate and upper - level courses to be eligible to apply to this program. The MSEd program is for students who already hold certification in biology; this program combines advanced study and practice in both an academic area and in professional education, enhancing the teaching and leadership abilities of secondary school educators. Completion of this degree and other requirements leads to professional certification in New York state as a teacher in grades 7-12 in biology.
