Program Description:

Options to fit your interests. Options to fit your future. Our students work confidently in one or more foreign languages. Their interests are transnational and transcultural. They come from around the world, bringing unique and varied intellectual questions. They develop their knowledge of literary theory and literary traditions to work confidently in one or more foreign languages. The flexible structure of Binghamton’s Comparative Literature program lets you shape your own curriculum, working with faculty in related departments such as Art History, English, and Philosophy. You’ll be able to tailor your coursework to your career ambitions, whether they’re academic or vocational. M.A. students may complete their degree in three semesters. They may focus on translation studies, and in this case they need to complete the graduate certificate in translation in conjunction with coursework in Comparative Literature. Doctoral students may focus on literary studies or on philosophy, literature, and the theory of criticism (PLC). (Doctoral students interested in translation should explore Binghamton’s PhD in Translation Studies.) We invite you to learn more about the options available in Comparative Literature at Binghamton University at our Graduate School website. And we encourage you to connect with our director of graduate studies.
