Ruth S. Ammon School of Education
The department offers a Master of Arts in Physical Education for students who already have New York State initial certification. Students have an opportunity to select a program of study that may complement teaching, including sport studies, coaching, adapted physical education and exercise science courses. In addition to the many courses, specialized topics and workshops are offered at convenient times during the summer and January intersession.
The Graduate Alternative Teacher Education (GATE) program provides an alternative track for both initial and professional certification for those students without prior teacher certification. The 66-credit program emphasizes teaching life skills through games and sports. Multidisciplinary, innovative activities and a holistic approach to education through the physical, where emphasis is placed on learning, is the focus of the program. Students may also specialize in adapted physical education.
