Master of Science in Nursing: Nurse Practitioner, Post-Master's Certificates

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The Monmouth MSN program provides the opportunity to become an advanced practice nurse, a much demanding role in our changing healthcare environment. Three nurse practitioner tracks are offered:

Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

There is a growing demand for psychiatric advanced practice nurses in a variety of treatment settings including outpatient clinics, acute inpatient units, partial day programs, prisons, long-term care facilities, and private practices.

Our psychiatric/mental health APN curriculum will prepare you to provide comprehensive mental and physical assessment, as well as diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders across the lifespan.

Therapeutic treatment modalities include psychiatric medication initiation and management, as well as individual, family, and group psychotherapy.

Family Nurse Practitioner

The master's in nurse practitioner track is designed to provide you with a broad knowledge base and a concentration in a selected area of clinical specialization. This includes understanding the impact of economics on social and health policy and an introduction to the interdisciplinary collaborative practice relevant to advanced nursing practice.

Our program will help you build confidence in the intellectual and clinical proficiency you need for advanced practice nursing. You’ll be guided to reach your full potential by developing autonomy, leadership, and professionalism.

Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

While having similarities to the Family Nurse Practitioner, the Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner focuses on the care of the adult and older adult, the Family Nurse Practitioner track focuses on the care of the family and a population throughout the lifespan.

Post-Master's Certificates

If you already have your MSN, you may prepare for a more advanced nursing role by earning a Post-Master’s Certificate in three disciplines:

  • Adult and Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (27 credits)
  • Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (33 credits)
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (30 credits)
