Program Description:

Moving ahead in the criminal justice professions means having a grounding in the nature of human behavior, an understanding of diverse cultures, the ability to use information technology, and an appreciation of the psychosocial variables that are so much a part of modern society. Look forward to becoming prepared for leadership positions in the criminal justice professions including law enforcement, homeland security, teaching, corrections, and the justice system.

Monmouth’s 30-credit Master of Arts in Criminal Justice stresses ethical and moral issues and an understanding of social responsibility, which may aid you in dealing successfully with diverse groups. We also concentrate on supervision and administration, emphasizing courses that develop your ability in leadership and state-of-the-art information technology.

It develops the critical and research skills needed for problem solving and policy making in the profession. Core courses focus on criminal procedure, psychopathology of the offender, research procedures, the use of psychosocial variables, systems thinking, and the development of policy. Students may choose from thesis track or non-thesis track options.

The Homeland Security Track will prepare individuals to assist in preventing, anticipating, and preparing for natural and man-made catastrophic events. This concentration will also provide opportunities for criminal justice professionals to work with federal, state, and local governmental agencies. In addition, trained professionals are finding many new opportunities in the private sector, protecting large multinational companies and organizations. Our curriculum provides a solid foundation for a broad liberal arts education and a balanced perspective on the study and practices of the criminal justice system.
