The Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry and Poetry in Translation is a low residency MFA program. Each year students spend two ten-day residencies on Drew University’s beautiful campus located just outside of New York City. Outside of the residencies students work with our award winning faculty in one-on-one mentorships. The New York metropolitan area offers our students abundant opportunities to share their poetry with the outside world. The program allows our students to hone their manuscripts, network, and seek publishers for their work.
Master of Fine Arts in Poetry (64 credits) requires the completion of four semesters and five residencies. During the fourth and final semester, students complete a manuscript of original poems.
Master of Fine Arts in Poetry in Translation (64 credits) requires the completion of four semesters and five residencies. This MFA track is designed to teach students about the different models and schools of translation. Students receiving this MFA will translate poetry into English. During the fourth semester, students complete a manuscript of translations.
Combined Master of Fine Arts in Poetry and Poetry in Translation (80 credits) requires that students complete five semesters and six residencies. The combined degree is designed for poets who also want to study the art of translation. During the fourth semester, students complete a manuscript of original poems. During the fifth semester, students complete a manuscript of translations.
