The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers the doctor of philosophy degree in engineering and the master of science degree in mechanical engineering. In general, applicants have a B.S. degree in mechanicalengineering. GRE general test scores are required. Graduates of other engineering and science disciplines and math are encouraged to apply. Special curricula are developed for such students to provide exposure tothe breadth of mechanical engineering. Qualified applicants can be admitted for either fall or spring semester.
The Mechanical Engineering Department is dedicated to educating the highest quality engineering professionals and leaders. Our graduates will be prepared to creatively solve engineering problems through the use of analysis, computation, and experimentation. The Department offers studies leading to specialization in the following areas: fluid and thermal science, mechanics, materials science, design and manufacturing, dynamic systems and control, and ocean engineering. There are also many opportunities for interdisciplinary study.

Non-native English speaking International applicants are required to submit TOEFL examination scores. Demonstration of a sufficient level of English Language proficiency is a prerequisite for admission. Submitted scores that fall below our minimum requirement will be considered unacceptable and grounds for denying admission.
