Program Description:

Students enrolled in this program are pursuing a graduate degree that will enable them to attain an Initial Certification in Elementary or Secondary School Administration from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Initial certification enables graduates to attain a variety of leadership positions in Missouri School Districts including assistant principals, principals, career center directors, school activity directors, school directors, and a variety of other administrative/supervisory positions. As a graduate of the Masters in Education Administration program and after passing the School Leader’s Licensure Assessment , you will attain an Initial Certification in Elementary or Secondary School Administration from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Initial certification opens the door to a variety of leadership positions in Missouri school districts including assistant principals, principals, career center directors, school activity directors, school directors, and a range of other administrative/supervisory positions. Becoming an effective administrator depends on the quality of all your educational experiences and the models you have to emulate. As a student in our Education Administration program, you become an active partner with professors and school administrators in shaping the structures of educational institutions. Your scholarly analyses and research as a student and your continual interactions with practicing school administrators during field experiences, such as internships, allow you to develop partnerships and become immersed in schools and communities. Though this program you will: *Develop an understanding nding of the relation of schooling to the ideals of American democracy. * Develop critical analytical skills to ensure that school practices are consistent with the American democratic ideals * Acquire knowledge about the range of human and technical aspects of school administration
