Program Description:

Designed for certified elementary, middle school or secondary education faculty who wish to pursue an advanced degree in the area of literacy education, this program prepares educators for Literacy Coach, Title I Reading, or Literacy Specialist positions in the K-12 educational system. Coursework is closely aligned with DESE requirements for state certification in special reading. The curriculum addresses the International Reading Association's Standards for Reading Professionals and the five propositions of accomplished teaching as prescribed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.


All graduate programs at UCM are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Teacher education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
