Program Description:

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree program is designed to provide students with theoretical and practical training and research skills along the lines of the scientist-practitioner model to prepare them to work in a variety of counseling and mental health settings and for acceptance into a doctoral program in psychology. Our Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s degree also prepares students to become licensed professional counselors. The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Evangel University is designed to prepare students to become licensed professional counselors. Courses are offered during afternoons and evenings in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Graduates have a 100% pass rate on the National Counselor Exam (NCE). The program has seven objectives: •Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of both counseling and human development theories and apply this information to demonstrate skills to diagnose and treat persons with psychological disorders •Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills to administer, score and interpret relevant counselor-based assessment instruments •Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theory and demonstrate skills necessary to design, conduct and analyze research and evaluate programs •Display an appreciation for – and sensitivity to – the unique characteristics and heritage of people of diverse cultures and value systems •Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills needed to develop rapport, interview, assess, intervene and treat both individuals and groups in counseling •Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and practice of ethical, legal and professional responsibilities •Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and practice of integration of Christian psychology (intradisciplinary, interdisciplinary and faith-practice) within a Christian worldview
