St. Cloud State University offers three graduate programs in English.
- English Education,
- English Studies, and
- Rhetoric and Writing.
English Education graduate programming offers practicing licensed teacher, to continue learning and find professional growth as you pursue a master's degree in English Education. You will enhance your career development through the study of literature, writing and pedagogy.
English Studies graduate programming will help you develop strong writing and critical thinking skills. It will also help prepare for a career in teaching, writing or editing as well as for further study at the doctoral level. You will be exposed to the wide-ranging field of English studies in courses that explore literature, rhetoric, composition, new media studies, creative writing and pedagogy.
Rhetoric and Writing graduate programming will help you develop strong reading, writing and critical thinking skills. It will also help prepare you for careers in teaching, writing, communication or editing, or for further study at the doctoral level. You will be exposed to the wide-ranging field of rhetoric and writing in courses that explore rhetoric, composition, new media studies and pedagogy.
In addition to submitting an application, application fee, GRE/GMAT scores if required by program, and 3 letters of recommendation, international students must also submit scores from a language admission exam and financial documentation stating that the student has to cover the cost of graduate study. Qualifying language admission exams and required scores are as follows:
TOEFL: 550 on the paper exam or 79 on the iBT with no subscore under 17;
Michigan Placement Test: 80;
