The Creative Writing Programs at Hamline University
MFA in Writing
Hamline's program, offered full- or part-time, will allow you to develop the process and craft of writing in a rigorous, engaged, and supportive environment. Our small class sizes provide an intimate setting in which you will establish trust and rapport with your classmates and receive one-on-one advising and feedback from your professors.
While many people enter the program with a particular focus, the MFA program encourages students to experiment across genres. Therefore, you will cultivate breadth and depth in the genre of your choice, while also developing your knowledge and craft across genres.
Faculty are accomplished writers who are also generous, highly effective teachers. They will guide you through your graduate work to ensure that you accomplish your academic and artistic goals.
Established in 1994, Hamline’s was the first MFA degree in creative writing in Minnesota. It offers a number of opportunities that distinguish it from many writing programs around the country.
Hamline University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Associations of Colleges and Schools
