The 66-credit program consists of two years of coursework and coordinated field placements, followed by a year of internship and a supervision seminar. The School Psychology Specialist program prepares graduates to become highly skilled, confident, and culturally responsive leaders in the field.  As a school psychologist, you will apply advanced expertise in learning, behavior, and mental health to serve children, families, schools and communities.

School Psychology students at William James College will have the option to specialize in Children and Families of Adversity and Resilience, African and Caribbean Mental Health, Global Mental Health, or Latino Mental Health.

Students receive hand-on field experience under the close supervision of field supervisors, in both elementary and secondary school settings.  Additionally, William James College students participate in a unique program called Primary Project, which pairs them with primary grade children who are at risk for adjustment programs. The elementary school student participates in child -led play sessions weekly with our first year school psychology students.

School Psychology Program graduates will be eligible to work in Massachusetts and other states.  After working as a school psychologist for two years and meeting other requirements, graduates can apply for Massachusetts licensure as an educational psychologist and practice privately.
