Program Information

Degrees Offered:

Master of Public Health (MPH), Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Our public health program includes a Masters in Public Health (MPH) that offers several combined degree pathways and a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) for those seeking to gain the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to be a leader in public health.

The DrPH, MPH and combined degree programs at Tufts are accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH).  CEPH is an independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools and programs of public health.  The Tufts Public Health program resides within the Tufts University School of Medicine.  While CEPH has different expectations for the organizational structure of schools and programs, the academic standards for degrees at both kinds of institutions are exactly the same.

Our MPH graduates leave the program with a sound education in the foundations of public health—epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, social and behavioral science, health services, and public health policy—and the skills to be competitive in pursuing public health careers.  The applied learning experience requires students to identify and tackle “real world” public health problems faced by an organizations doing public health work.  This experience gives students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to the kinds of settings in which they are likely to be employed and includes opportunities to complete this experience while working abroad.

Our DrPH students come to Tufts because they want to pursue public health in an environment that encourages cross-disciplinary study along with advanced work in foundational public subjects.  Each admitted class is small and students work closely with the DrPH director, their individual advisor and other faculty to design a learning trajectory that meets their specific career goals.
