PhD in History
The Master of Arts in History with a concentration in Public History at Northeastern University is one of the most prestigious programs of its kind in the country. It aims to produce educated graduates to enter professional positions in the various fields of public and applied history. The Master's concentration program builds on the Department's rigorous education in theory and practice of history with a series of professional courses taught by historians and professionals working in public history.
Designed to complete solid graduate level education in history, public history requirements include at least three public history courses and one field work requirement taken among the eight courses required to complete the Master of Arts in History degree. In addition to the MA degree, students receive a concentration in Public History.
The Realm of Public History Includes:
*Studies in material culture.
*The operation of historical societies, archives, and museums.
*The design and production of historical exhibitions, radio and television programs, films, and plays.
*The management or editing of historical papers.
*The research and writing of the histories of institutions and communities.
*The design and analysis of public policy related to historic preservation.
