Master of Science in Computer Science (ALIGN)
Breaking into a new industry can be difficult, especially if your education and experience are not a match for your current job search. That’s why Northeastern University created the MS Computer Science ALIGN program (Accelerated Link to Industry through Northeastern’s Global Network).
This unique graduate program prepares high-ability bachelor’s degree holders for the high-demand computer science industry, regardless of their previous experience or undergraduate major.
The MS in Computer Science ALIGN program is designed for students with strong quantitative and analytical backgrounds. While students typically come from fields such as mathematics and engineering, the program also supports students from a broad range of undergraduate majors, including history, economics, and physics.
No matter what your background, you will acquire both the knowledge needed to transition into a new career and the practical skills to build the next great app or engineer the next great device.
As a student in this program, you have the opportunity to:
• Develop the ability to recognize and solve problems arising in the use of modern digital computers
• Assimilate ideas and concepts from theoretical studies and from in-depth, hands-on design and programming
• Acquire skills in software and application design, network infrastructure, and other essential computer science
• Prepare to innovate and thrive in the surging technology sector
Northeastern’s MS in Computer Science ALIGN program combines core coursework in program design, computer systems, and software development to build on your strong analytical skills. Elective courses in machine learning, databases, networks and security, and software engineering allow you to tailor your degree to your unique interests.
Classroom and cohort-based learning support your development of fundamental computer science and problem-solving skills. As a computer science student, you’re part of a vibrant community and have access to outstanding academic support.
Upon completion of required courses, students are able to apply for full-time co-ops at some of the leading companies across the country, including Google, Microsoft, Apple, Intel, Nectar Games, EMC Corporation, and more.
Over the past five years, more than 98 percent of our computer science students who have a sought a co-op position have been successfully placed. While you are building real-world experience and career-advancing connections, your earnings can help offset up to 75 percent of your tuition cost.
Computing is an essential element of nearly every human endeavor, and today’s computer scientists are solving many of the world’s problems. For this innovative work, the rewards are often high, with competitive salaries and the intrinsic benefits of knowing that your contributions have great impact on people, companies, and communities.
In June 2013, Forbes reviewed salary and employment outlook data with the goal of identifying the best master’s degrees for immediate job potential. Information systems ranked first, and computer science ranked fourth—the projected increase in jobs associated with these degrees was 30 percent and 21.3 percent respectively. The opportunities are vast, and the rewards are innumerable.
What Our Students Say:
“ALIGN provides all of us who are daring and eager to change fields with a unique opportunity to dive into new, promising technological ventures. I can find no other programs that have such a clear mission.”
