Electrical and Computer Engineering - Master
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers two doctoral degrees: a Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Doctoral Degree in Computer Engineering, as well as a Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The Ph.D. degree is awarded for original research conducted under the supervision of a faculty advisor. With the large amount of sponsored research in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, opportunities exist for research in most areas. Many Ph.D. students are supported on research assistantships, others hold teaching assistantships, and some study part-time.
The Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering can be research-oriented or can be taken part-time. Many full-time students are supported under either teaching or research assistantships which are awarded competitively during the application process, and which are occasionally available at other times. Part-time students will find that courses are scheduled to allow them to maintain a full-time career. Applicants for part-time study may apply for admittance in the fall or spring semesters. Students will select a concentration in one of the following areas: Communications and Signal Processing Computer Engineering Control Systems and Signal Processing Electromagnetics, Plasma and Optics Electronic Circuits and Semiconductor Devices Power Systems
Additionally, the Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Leadership is offered in conjunction with the intensive one-year Gordon Engineering Leadership Program. The program involves a full-time internship with skilled mentors and practitioners and formal instruction in the areas of Engineering Leadership and Scientific Foundations of Engineering.
