Program Description:

The Master’s in Community Engagement is a 36-credit graduate program which focuses on citizen involvement and social justice, emphasizing service learning and community development. Students in the program are passionate about addressing pressing social issues and needs through community organizing and community partnerships.  Students gain a broad understanding of civic engagement in the nonprofit sector, including trends, theoretical models, and best practices The program prepares students with fundamental skills needed in a number of career directions and a wide range of employment opportunities for outreach and partnership work in schools, colleges, and community organizations.    

Areas of concentration: Higher Education, K-12 Education, Community .  Classes are held on campus late afternoon and early evenings.

FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM:  The application period is now open for Merrimack's prestigious Community Engagement Fellowship program that provides students with a tuition-free fellowship leading to an M.Ed. in one year.  Students take classes at night and do an on-site residency during the day, gaining unparalleled field experience. 


Merrimack College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The School of Education offers multiple licensure programs that have been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Interstate Certification Compact of the National Association of State Directors of Teachers Education. Students are able to receive reciprocal teaching licenses in more than 45 states. Please refer to the DESE's website and each state's requirements for exact terms of reciprocity.
