Have a direct impact on student academic and social success at the Middle School level with a program that was developed expressly to teach this dynamic age group. M.Ed. in Middle School (5-8): MA Initial Licensure 36 credits (11 courses) Courses taken at Lesley’s Cambridge, MA campus as well as in specified off-campus locations Prerequisite: completion of a college or university’s requirements for a major in the discipline of the license sought, or have passed the MA Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) in the subject content area for the license sought Students must complete a 75-hour Early Field Experience in a classroom appropriate to the license sought. Content areas: English General Science History Humanities Mathematics Mathematics/Science Political Science/Political Philosophy M.Ed. in Middle School English and Specialist Teacher of Reading (All Levels) Prerequisites: Completion of college/university requirements for a major in English, or passing the MA Tests for Educator Licensure in English (5-8). An Initial or Professional license for middle school teacher and at least one year of teaching under that license is required to be eligible for license as a Specialist Teacher of Reading (can be completed after middle school coursework) 54 credits: 27 in the middle school portion, 27 in the reading portion Two practicum experiences, one for middle school and one for reading Courses taken at Lesley’s Cambridge, MA, campus Approved by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Collaborative Internship Master of Education Degree Through our affiliation with six independent and three public schools in Massachusetts, you have the opportunity to connect new knowledge to practice in a field-based M.Ed. leading to initial licensure in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, or Special Education. Participate actively in all aspects of school and classroom life, including curriculum development, working with students and parents, and other school activities.
