Program Description:

At the heart of our M.Ed. in Early Childhood program is a respect for the competence and curiosity of young children in grades PreK-2. The program will prepare you to meet the unique needs of all children, and inspire a lifelong love of learning. Challenging and engaging coursework includes human development, literacy and literature, special needs, and family and culture. M.Ed. in Early Childhood Initial License; Professional License This is a 39-credit program that includes 11 courses and a 6-credit practicum. Some courses include field-based assignments. Practicum placements—in a MA public school in the role and grade level of the license you are seeking—are set up through the Field Placement Office. Students may complete the program on a part-time or full-time basis. Full time students can complete the program in a minimum of four semesters (for example, beginning in summer and completing at the end of the following summer). Classes take place at Lesley’s Cambridge, MA, campus, and at selected off-campus sites in an intensive weekend format. M.Ed. in Early Childhood and Creative Arts in Learning: Program consists of 42 credits (13 courses, including 1 arts elective and a 6-credit practicum). Some courses include field-based assignments. Program completion: may complete program on a part-time or full-time basis; full time students can complete in a minimum of four semesters. Classes are held at Lesley's Cambridge, MA campus Program prerequisite: undergraduate degree Program approved for Massachusetts Initial licensure in Early Childhood (PreK-2) by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, Early Childhood Specialization: 33 credits (11 courses) Courses cover topics that include: developmental learning; early childhood curriculum; literacy, literature, and the arts; first and second language acquisition; Action research project Classes offered at selected off-campus sites M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction: Integrated Teaching Through the Arts/Pre-K-2 The program consists of 33 credits of core education courses and integrated arts courses Program prerequisite: Massachusetts Initial license in Early Childhood or Elementary Education Program leads to Professional licensure at either the PreK-2 or 1-6 level Program is aligned to National Board of Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS), state, and Common Core standards Classes held at Lesley’s Cambridge, MA, campus in a combination of weekly and intensive weekend formats and at locations outside Massachusetts, Collaborative Internship Master of Education Degree Through our affiliation with six independent and three public schools in Massachusetts, you have the opportunity to connect new knowledge to practice in a field-based M.Ed. leading to initial licensure in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, or Special Education. Participate actively in all aspects of school and classroom life, including curriculum development, working with students and parents, and other school activities.
