Computer Science and IT Entrepreneurship - Doctorate
Today's business world demands both sharp technical skills and broad business insight. The Brandeis two-year Master of Arts program in Computer Science and IT Entrepreneurship goes beyond a traditional graduate technology degree— students learn how to form a business around their ideas in the IT sector, from IT research to software development. This program combines graduate level Computer Science coursework with electives that emphasize cutting-edge research and the special skills required for launching a successful business in information technology. Brandeis University’s Master of Arts in IT Entrepreneurship is designed to prepare students to be entrepreneurs by providing the skills and knowledge needed to transform a technological idea into a viable business. Brandeis is just minutes away from Route 128, a premiere technological concentration and Boston’s own “Silicon Valley.” Within a world-renown research university which houses both the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the International Business School, Brandeis’ Computer Science and IT Entrepreneurship program is very well-positioned to provide students with opportunities to connect with current and future business leaders, including our alumni who have become successful entrepreneurs. The Master of Arts in IT Entrepreneurship’s primary focus is software-based IT enterprises and the specific challenges and opportunities they present. During a two-year period, students will be exposed to a variety of topics, from the fundamentals of computer science, software programming practices, and the core principles of entrepreneurship, such as: Creativity and Innovation — how to recognize good transformative ideas; the product development cycle, including the role of rapid prototyping as a tool to generate interest and solidify one's plans; the business plan cycle, revenue models for information goods, IT marketing, and the overarching issue of pricing in the information economy. In addition, this unique master's program covers IT-specific issues such as enterprise computing architectures, security engineering, and traffic-analysis techniques. The curriculum includes core entrepreneurship courses taught by successful entrepreneurs across the information technology industry, as well a practicum where students put knowledge into practical use. Program Highlights • The two-year MA in Computer Science and IT Entrepreneurship provides solid training in computer science, plus an additional four-course entrepreneurship sequence taught by successful entrepreneurs across the information technology industry. The program culminates in a practicum in which the student creates a business plan for an IT startup. • Many students receive partial tuition scholarships that cover approximately half of tuition. • This unique program’s curriculum goes beyond the fundamentals of computer science and software programming practices to the core principles of entrepreneurship through 3 modules: From Idea to Product (Creativity and Innovation); The Product Development Cycle (including the role of rapid prototyping as a tool to generate interest and solidify your plans); and The Business Plan Cycle (revenue models for information goods, IT marketing, and the overarching issue of pricing in the information economy).
