Program Description:

The UMBC School of Public Policy offers a master's (M.P.P.) and a Ph.D. degree. The program is interdisciplinary, drawing from economics, sociology, political science and policy analysis. Students take a core curriculum, and then choose a specific policy or social science concentration. The concentrations are: education policy; environmental policy; evaluation and analytical methods; health policy; public management; urban policy; and also at the PhD. level: economics; emergency services and policy history (Ph.D. only). The program includes full and part-time students. We welcome recent graduates as well as mid-career professionals seeking the next step in their educational development. Classes are offered on the UMBC campus. We have a distinguished and nationally recognized full-time core faculty in public policy and related social sciences. Students have the opportunity, and are in fact encouraged, to work with faculty on research projects as paid graduate research assistants. The proximity of the UMBC campus to federal and state government offices in Baltimore, Washington and the surrounding area provides an ideal setting for training in a public policy program.
