Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts
Students pursuing the M.A. in English include secondary school teachers who wish to improve their credentials, as well as students seeking a stepping stone to teaching at the junior or community college level or to Ph.D. graduate study. Recent graduates have been admitted to Ph.D. programs at Ball State, Carnegie-Mellon, Catholic, George Washington, Marquette and Purdue universities and have secured teaching positions in both community colleges and universities in the Middle Atlantic region and beyond. Each year six teaching assistantships are awarded ($8250 per year plus tuition waiver). Assistantships are not offered to international students in their first semester at SSU.
