Program Description:

With one of the nation’s few graduate degrees in health and wellness coaching, Maryland University of Integrative Health is a forerunner in one of the top careers of the decade. According to U.S. News & World Report, “Wellness coaches are being hired not only by individuals but by employers and health insurers as a likely cost-beneficial perk for their employees.”

As a graduate of the Master of Arts in Health and Wellness Coaching program, you will be uniquely prepared to fill the growing demand for coaches with advanced knowledge and skills to help people take charge of their own health and create sustainable change. You will also enhance the scope of your skills by gaining expertise in integrative health and by working from a wellness perspective. This sets you apart from your peers and truly resonates with clients.

Career opportunities for Master of Arts in Health and Wellness Coaching graduates include:

  • Health and wellness coach in private and group practices
  • Corporate health and wellness coach
  • Health and wellness coach at fitness centers, medical centers, and other health-related organizations
  • Faculty at colleges and universities

The 30-credit program provides you with the skills and expertise to build a rewarding coaching practice or work in an organization so that you can help clients clarify their health goals, implement and sustain life-changing behaviors, and manage progress and accountability.

Taught by leaders in the fields of health, wellness, and coaching, the curriculum includes evidence-based models such as Motivational Interviewing, Prochaska’s Stages of Change, Positive Psychology, and the emerging field of  neuroscience. While engaged in the study of theoretical models, students also gain the practical skills of building a coaching practice through working one-on-one with clients, and creating a business plan can prepare graduates to become National Consortium for Credentialing Health and Wellness Coaches (NCCHWC) certified health and wellness coaches and Internatinal Coach Federation (ICF) certified coaches, depending on format.
