Program Description:

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is a 39-credit, nationally accredited program that prepares candidates for initial certification in Maryland (and most other states) in elementary or secondary education. Designed to develop and support innovative teachers, the program integrates academic coursework and clinical internships that prepare candidates to be effective teachers committed to improving student performance and reaching the needs of today’s diverse learners in a variety of school settings. The MAT program, delivered in a variety of formats, is designed for recent graduates of bachelor or graduate degree programs, as well as career-changing professionals who desire to become teachers. Secondary certification areas include English, mathematics, science (biology, chemistry, earth/space science, physics), and social studies.
