Degrees Offered:

M.S. in Psychology - Addictions

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Helping to counsel those with addictions can be incredibly gratifying and requires a deep understanding of addictions counseling, group counseling, psychopharmacology, and co-occurring disorders, and how to apply this knowledge to guide clients toward recovery. All of these topics are included in the specialized curriculum offered to students who choose to pursue this concentration at Purdue Global. The Master of Science in Psychology with a concentration in addictions is accredited by the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission (NASAC, nasacaccreditation.org). Purdue University Global is a National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC)-approved education provider, and the master's degree meets the coursework requirements to prepare you to take the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals’ Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) examination.*

* The University cannot guarantee students will be eligible to sit for or pass exams. Additional requirements must also be completed to take the MAC examination, including degree, field experience, and licensure requirements. Refer to www.NAADAC.org for full eligibility requirements. The professional practice of psychology is regulated by each state. This program was not designed to meet any specific state’s requirements for licensure or certification, and Purdue Global makes no representations or warranties as to whether the degree or any individual courses meet such requirements. Refer to the University Catalog for additional information. It is important to note that, while earning a master’s degree in psychology may qualify you to work in the helping professions, a doctorate degree is required to become a psychologist and a medical degree is required to become a psychiatrist.
