Iowa State is a world leader in materials research, boasting facilities that include the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory, the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation, and the Microelectronics Research Center. Every year, MSE faculty administer more than $14 million in funds from outside sources to support the work of graduate and other researchers in advanced metals and ceramics, biomaterials, electronic materials, polymeric materials, nano-crystalline and amorphous materials, and advanced synthesis and processing techniques.
