Strategic Management PhD Area of the Management Program

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Strategic Management addresses the decisions that are fundamental to an organization's ultimate and operational goals-- the decisions that determine whether it will earn above-average returns. These are critical for both entrepreneurial firms and established firms. Emphasis is placed upon the strategic decisions that enable a firm to generate resources and capabilities so as to attain a competitive advantage relative to rivals. Strategic decisions are global, cut across functional lines, and usually involve long-time horizons and long-term resource commitments and risks, which imply strategies may be difficult to reverse. To prepare students to become leading scholars and teachers in the field of strategic management, students typically take four seminars in strategic management as well as doctoral-level courses in economics, finance, and statistics.
