Program Description:

The Food Science Graduate Program at Purdue University is interdepartmental and one of the best in the country. The Food Science Department is located in the Philip E. Nelson Hall of Food Science containing state-of-the-art laboratory facilities including an excellent Pilot Plant. Both M.S., Ph.D., and direct Ph.D. degrees are offered in four major areas of specialization: Food Chemistry, Structure and Function (Molecular Structure and Functionality, Molecular techniques, Enzymology, Phytochemicals, Toxicology) Food Safety and Microbiology (Safety, Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology) Food Processing and Technology Development (Engineering, Modeling, On-Line sensors, Packaging, Sensory), and Foods for Health. Our centers of excellence are: The Center for Food Safety Engineering, Whistler Center for Carbohydrate, The Center for Integrated Food Manufacturing, The Food Processing Environmental Assistance Center, and The International Food Technology Center. Our program will provide outstanding graduate education in both theory and practice of Food Science.
